Is Grab Available in Taiwan?
If you’re planning a trip to Taiwan, you might be wondering is Grab in Taiwan for your transportation needs?
While Grab is popular in many Southeast Asian countries, Grab is not available in Taiwan (not even Taipei city).
But don’t worry, here’s good news! Taiwan has tons of other great alternatives to get around, whether you’re taking the MRT train around the city or heading out to scenic spots like Sun Moon Lake or Kenting National Park.
As Taiwan travel writers and having lived in Taiwan, we can confidently say you’ll be just fine without Grab, we promise!
In this guide, we’ll answer some common questions around Grab in Taiwan, Uber vs Grab in Taiwan, the top alternatives taxi hailing apps available in Taiwan, and give you other suggestions to traveling in Taiwan. (like biking or taking the high speed rail!)

Taiwan Grab or Uber: Which Is Better?
Many people are bummed to learn Grab isn’t available in Taiwan (and I’ll be honest, I was too). Grab is awesome and a Super all-in-one App compared to Uber) but for transportation needs, Uber works just as well in Taiwan.
In Taiwan, Uber is your go-to ride-sharing app, so if you’re used to Grab’s ride hailing services, you’ll be right at home with the Uber app.

It’s available in big cities like Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung, and even smaller towns like Jiufen Old Street.
Unlike Grab, which isn’t in Taiwan, Uber is everywhere—and it’s super convenient. Whether you’re heading out to Longshan Temple, or our favorite Taipei hike, Elephant Mountain hike.
Uber will get you there fast and with no hassle.

What Is the Best Way to Get Around Taiwan?
Taiwan’s transportation system is super easy to use, so whether you’re hanging out in Taipei or exploring the countryside, you’ve got plenty of options. The Taiwan High-Speed Rail (THSR) is one of the best ways to travel between cities like Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung.
It’s fast, comfortable, and smooth. When I took the high-speed rail from Taipei to Kaohsiung, I was amazed at how quickly I got there!
You can sit back and enjoy the ride, and venture out to Taiwan’s beautiful landscapes like Sun Moon Lake.
If you’re feeling adventurous, I highly recommend cycling around Sun Moon Lake—it’s one of the most stunning places in Taiwan and a great place to stay for a couple of nights to experience Taiwan’s nature.
Cycling is a fun and peaceful way to take in the natural beauty and it is named one of the best bike paths in the world!
(Insider tip: Check out our guide on Cycling Sun Moon Lake Taiwan for all the best spots and bike routes!)

For a beachy escape, head down to Kenting National Park—it’s a true gem. I spent a couple of days there and loved every minute!
Uber vs Grab in Taiwan
Wondering if Uber or Grab is in Taiwan? Well, Uber’s definitely here, but Grab is a no-go. But no worries—Uber’s your best bet for getting around, especially in the cities.
I used Uber in Taipei to visit places like Ximending, Taipei 101, and all the amazing night markets (a must-see in Taipei!). I even used it to head out to Jiufen, which is totally worth the trip. The ride was quick and comfy.
(Pro tip: Uber is perfect for longer trips, like heading out to Jiufen—it’s way better than taking a bus!)

How Much Is Grab in Taipei?
Since Grab isn’t in Taipei, you won’t have to worry about its pricing. Uber and taxi fares in Taipei are affordable, making it a great choice for getting around.
A short ride within the city can cost between NT$100 to NT$300 (about $3 to $10 USD). If you’re traveling farther, like to the airport or out to the suburbs, it might cost a little more, but it’s still pretty reasonable.
I remember using Uber to get from Taipei to Jiufen, and even though it was a longer ride, it was totally worth it. Plus, the views during the ride were incredible!
When you’re in Jiufen, don’t forget to grab some Taiwan Souvenirs—you’ll find some really cool, handmade items that make perfect gifts!
Final Tip: Is Grab Available in Taiwan
Even though Grab isn’t available in Taiwan, Uber is a great alternative. Plus, Taiwan’s public transport and travel options are really easy to use, whether you’re hopping on the high-speed rail or cycling around the lake, you’ll have no trouble getting from one place to the next.
