Traveling to Honolulu, and wondering how much is an Uber from Honolulu Airport to North Shore? As a local and Hawaii travel writer, I’ll cover everything you need to know in less than 5 minutes.
The cost of an Uber ride from Honolulu Airport to North Shore is on average $50-90 USD. The reason why there’s such a high range is because it will vary based on the type of service you choose, the time of day, traffic, and current demand. More on estimated prices for different Uber services more later.
It takes on average one hour (approximately 40-45 miles) with zero traffic to get from Honolulu Airport to Northshore. If you’re going during peak times (M-F 3-6pm), it could take as long as 1.5-2 hours so definitely avoid going during this time! (Honolulu Airport is also known as Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and HNL Airport)

Uber Prices from Honolulu Airport to North Shore
On average, here are the estimated prices for different Uber services from Honolulu Airport to North Shore ONE WAY, not roundtrip. It can vary based on the type of service you choose, the time of day, and current demand. The easiest way to calculate is to bring up the Uber app and input HNL to Northshore, but know it’ll still vary based on traffic, time of day, as that will determine the demand and price.
Here’s some solid estimates below. (I’ve also compared these with searching on my own on the Uber app as a local in Oahu)
- UberX: $50-$90 (Standard economy cars, 2-4 passengers)
- UberXL: $90-$110 (Larger vehicles like SUVs or minivans, up to 6 passengers)
- Uber Black: $130-$170 (High-end luxury sedans, up to 4 passengers)
- Uber Black SUV: $150-$200 (High-end luxury SUVs, up to 6 passengers)
These are approximate costs, and prices can fluctuate. It’s always a good idea to check the Uber app for the most accurate fare estimate before your trip.
Is There Uber on North Shore Oahu
Yes, there is Uber on Northshore, but there’s much less drivers (think 90% less). While it’s very easy to find an Uber from Honolulu Airport to Northshore (there are tons of Ubers available at the airport), there is much less availability to find an Uber coming back from Northshore to Honolulu Airport or Waikiki.
That doesn’t mean there isn’t any Ubers available, there are! You just need to factor in more waiting time (15-20 minutes) before an Uber picks you up, but that’s totally normal when using Uber in more rural and country side areas anywhere in the world.
Northshore is a long stretch usually with only one driving lane in each direction, which means there’s more traffic for the Uber to make its way to you. Usually the Ubers drivers wait near Wahaiwa (a town 15-20 minutes south from the Northshore), and a few near Haleiwa, Northshore.
While Uber can be a convenient option, you might also consider exploring other options for reaching the North Shore
- Tours: If you’re visiting Hawaii or Oahu for the first time, tours are one of the best ways to see the best of what the island has to offer.
My favorite tour is this one that include stops to the Northshore. It’s such a great value considering how many spots you get to visit. I love sitting back and not having to worry about where to drive or park. Considering how much an Uber is, it’s a no brainer to book a tour! - Renting a car: This can give you more flexibility, if you plan on exploring different parts of Oahu in general. You’ll have more flexibility with your schedule and won’t have to rely on ride availability. While it isn’t a difficult drive from Honolulu airport or Waikiki to the Northshore, it does involve multiple freeway changes (around 4-5), and there is often traffic. (You’ll have a much more enjoyable experience driving during off peak hours.)
- Bus: That being said, the bus service on Oahu is quite good, if a quite slow. It could take 2-2.5 hours to get from Honolulu to Northshore, because it stops quite frequently. You could potentially combine Ubers in town with TheBus for longer trips.
