I remember my first trip to Hawaii, and if I could go back in time, I’d definitely tell my past self to book a hotel on the North Shore instead of Waikiki. While Waikiki is bustling with energy, tourists, and nightlife, it felt a bit too party-centric for me.
I found myself driving out every morning to explore the more serene and authentic parts of the island, like Hawaii Kai and Lanikai. The North Shore, with its slower pace and stunning natural beauty, offers a completely different experience—one that I think captures the true essence of Hawaii.
If I only had two days in Honolulu to explore Oahu (assuming its for a layover), I’d base myself in Waikiki. If I had any more than one day, I’d base myself in Northshore.
